Daren Welton
I started Carp fishing around 30 years ago at the ripe old age of 12 I knew then that I had found a side of fishing that fascinated me. Back then 'doubles' were big fish, '20s' were monsters and don’t even go there with '30s' and '40s'.

i`ve been carping now for almost 25 years and after using Richworth baits way back in the mid 80s its great to be back using and catching on their baits again. boiled ham and honey yucatans were my favourite. I've done a number of articles over the last few years including pieces in carpworld, crafty carper, total carp, carp talk, northwest angler and big carp mag. hopefuly i will continue to contribute in some way over the next few years and if possible help out anyone new to this sport.
"never look a gift horse in the mouth! Keep those special waters under your hat!"
TYPE OF BAIT: xlr8 boilies,Baitzone particles.
WHY YOUR FAVORITE: despite only very recently joining Richworth the xlr8 grabbed my attention straight away, the rich meaty and spicy smell screams big carp, in the short space of time ive used it the baits allready helped me bank a couple including one stunner only caught twice in 10 years!! Tiger nuts and hemp also play a massive part in my summer fishing and the Baitzone ones are super.
HOW TO USE BAIT: PVA bags are my favourite method at present using the excellent Gardner ones, crumb up some whole xlr8 boilies and mix with the xlr8 pellet and a few Baitzone bloodworm pellets to get a lovelly smelling trap of food.
REELS: daiwa tournies/ daiwa emblem 5000zt,daiwa ss 2600
BAITS: plenty of Baitzone hemp and xlr8 10mms.
ACCESSORIES: gardner mugga hooks,Trickster hooklink,gt 80 line,mirage flurocarbon.
my new 'old skool' evo bivvy, some tasty little indicators from AGT.
SET UP : the one for the job
PLACE TO FISH : linears hardwick/manor, my current water.
SWIM: the split on hardwick.
After catching hardwicks big fully scalled mirror back in 2003 and good old Roy Parsons had done me the pictures i named the great beast Jordan due to the up front shape of the fish and the fact its a stunner! the name has stuck ever since.
i suppose catching 4 winter 30s way back in 2000 from linears manor farm including my target the random linear at 33lb a week before xmas. My first redesmere winter carp in 1999 in February when fishing with good friend gaz fareham was also a very enjoyable. My recent capture of a 39lb 2 oz lake record staffordshire mirror carp, a high point in 2011.
TIP 1: try to arrive in the dark as rolling carp can be easily located with a sharp ear.
TIP 2: keep looking and active as much as possible
TIP 3: always carry some floaters in the summer and a bag of tutties in the winter
2012 has brought a whole new game to the table! I've been lucky to land on my feet for once and gained access to a water that most can only dream about. vey limited access and above all no silly rules or jumped up bailiffs! Difficult fishing but the rewards are there. A couple of stunning big commons and one that maybe a pb and over the magic 40!!
