I'm the Editor of Carpworld Magazine, Britain's longest established carp-fishing title. Having worked as an angling journalist for nearly 14 years I have also compiled several books on angling. I enjoy fishing mainly for carp of all sizes, and have fished for carp all over the world. In recent years I have travelled to America to compete in the carp-match scene with some good results. My favourite method for carp fishing would have to be stalking at close range.

"Never settle for second best. If you have the slightest doubt in your rig presentation or bait application, think it through again until you are 100 per-cent happy. I've located some spots where if the rig was positioned 100 per cent I'd get a take. If however, it was a foot short of the mark I didn't get a take."

spacer FAVORITE BAIT: spacer
spacer spacer spacer
spacer

TYPE OF BAIT: KG1, 14mm and 10mm.
WHY YOUR FAVORITE: It gives me plenty of confidence to know that I have a bait that carp like. More importantly it's a bait that I know I can take to any water and with good application get takes!
HOW TO USE BAIT: As far as presentations are concerned with any form of boilie bait, I always experiment. In the past I have had some good results using three 10mm baits on a Hair Rig when I've struggled to get takes with a bigger, single bait. I also favour a lot of pre-baiting with samller baits to gain the confidence of the carp I'm after.

Comming second in the Great St Lawrence Challenge in 2006 in the States... We could have won it!!! Spending a week at Rainbow Lakes in France and fishing in Peg 19. I didn't get any sleep all week as the anticipation of a bite kept me awake!

spacer MARTIN FORD QUESTION OF THE MONTH: spacer
spacer spacer spacer
spacer

Q: Which type of indicators do you use?
A: I used to use a simple dangler type indicator with a chain on it, and I still do for certain conditions. However, I've always been a fan of the 'old school' Monkey Climber type of indicator and just recently they seem to be making a bit of a come back. Matrix Innovations have just launched a monkey type indicator called The Cheeky Monkey, and I favour these when the wind is strong, as you don't suffer false indication from a side wind.

spacer MARTIN FORD TOP TIPS: spacer
spacer spacer spacer
spacer

TIP 1: The first and last bit of kit you should put up and take down... should be your landing net!
TIP 2: You can always put more bait in, but once it's in... You can't take it out!
TIP 3: Don't be afraid to try a Zig-Rigged bait in the late Autumn and indeed into winter. Very often carp will sitting higher up in the warmer water and Zigs score well.

If the truth be known I would dearly love to catch one of the big-uns from the Car Park Lake at Yateley. Since I started carp fishing many years ago, I have always wanted to spend time there. My biggest problem is time, but that's something that I have to plan in order to fufill this ambition.
