I started Carp fishing around 30 years ago at the ripe old age of 12 I knew then that I had found a side of fishing that fascinated me. Back then 'doubles' were big fish, '20s' were monsters and don’t even go there with '30s' and '40s'.

LEATHER CARP: 34lb 6oz
TYPE OF BAIT: Boilies, hemp and anything that can be used on the surface
WHY YOUR FAVORITE: Boilies are such a versatile bait and are more consistent than most others for catching the better sized fish.
HOW TO USE BAIT: Spodding is my favourite tactic on the bottom with a mixture of hemp, pellet and whole and chopped up boilies making up the contents of the spod.
For the surface a mix of different sized pellets either spodded, pulted or PVA bagged out.
REELS: SS3000's for the bottom, SS2600's for the surface
BAITS: Through 2010 I will continue to use the K-G-1 freezer bait and also the new XLR8
ACCESSORIES: Delkim TXI alarms. Aqua 60inch brolly. Korda hooks, leads, and end tackle.
SET UP : My floater gear
PLACE TO FISH : Horseshoe Lake, Dinton, Carthagena, Stoneacres, Birch Grove
SWIM: Boat Point at Horseshoe Lake. The Compound at Birch Grove
I have a 40lb carp named after me. It lives in Christchurch on the Linch Hill complex and is known as Pooley's
The Dustbin at 38-12 caught off the top from Dinton Pastures in August 2001.
TIP 1: When fishing over boilies I always use a mix of different sized free offerings if I can. This makes it much harder for a carp to work out which one is dangerous, and also gives you the option of fishing with several sizes on the hair.
TIP 2: Glug your floaters in a combination of Tutti Frutti and Richworth Minamino.
TIP 3: A small bait approach can be an excellent way of tempting bites when nothing else seems to be working. Despite being widely available, 10mm boilies are still used by a very small percentage of anglers' and fished over a bed of small particles can really score where larger baits are being ignored
